General introduction
Spellings in the Dagbani language follow the sounds produced by letters used in the language. To be able to read and write in the Dagbani Language, one needs to acquaint themselves with the sounds of the letters of the Dagbani language. This probably, makes reading and writing in Dagbani quite easy. Reading and writing in Dagbani is not as complex as it is in some other languages such as English Language, where the reading of some words are phonic (the sound of each letter in a word counts) whiles others are not.
For instance, in English Language, words such as cat, band, ring, tank, net, in, etc. are phonic whereas words such as through, sight, science, country, court, photo, etc are not phonic. Thus in the English language, a letter may sound differently depending on where it is used. This is not the case in reading and writing in the Dagbani language. You just need to grasp the sound each letter makes and you are good to go.
